Guide to Reinforced, Large-Diameter, Thin-Wall Shafts

Pebax®-lined, large diameter braided shafts

  • Extrusion of very thin, walled sheaths from 12F to 42F.
  • Pebax® can provide high clarity in a range of durometers, and allows ease of bonding in terms of adhesives and overmoulding.
  • The material is a good base material to allow addition of a hydrocoat layer.
  • Pebax® is suitable for Gamma, EtO, and autoclave sterilization.

FEP/ETFE-lined, large diameter braided shafts

  • Extrusion of extremely thin-walled sheaths from 12F to 42F. These wall thicknesses are as thin as can be manufactured by any means at the given diameter.
  • FEP is a good low-cost alternative for applications requiring good lubricity.
  • Both FEP and ETFE are made with continuous processes and therefore have a low unit cost point.
  • Good lubricity and chemical resistance.
  • FEP and ETFE are suitable for Gamma, E-beam, EtO, and autoclave sterilization.

HDPE-lined, large diameter braided shafts

  • Extrusion of thin-walled sheaths from 12F to 42F.
  • The material is a good, low-cost alternative for applications requiring good lubricity.
  • Extruded using a continuous process and therefore low unit cost point.
  • HDPE liners are particularly suitable for high density braided designs (ensure very good lamination).
  • Good lubricity and chemical resistance.
  • HDPE can be used in continuous extrusion (like Pebax® or FEP/ETFE).
  • HDPE is suitable for Gamma, E-beam, EtO, and autoclave sterilization.
